F1 FANIMATIONS & STAGE

Thanks to Pimp My Brand and Sport Creative for the amazing opportunity to work on these videos for Formula 1.

In 2018, we started by producing infotainment and Social Wall videos to be broadcast outside the circuit, entertaining and informing Grand Prix visitors.
From there, in 2019, we expanded to on-circuit content, collaborating with sponsoring brands like Heineken, creating Team Radio virtual animations on the fences, decorating the Parc Fermé and Pit Lane, animating the Formula 1 logo, and producing animations for the Safety Car.

Leading a team of just eight people, with Chris Meyer as the lead motion designer, I oversaw animations from the client brief through concepts and final production, delivering highly engaging and innovative content and introducing new creative approaches to the world of Formula 1.

+ + + F1 INFOTAINMENT 2018

With Sport Creative, I led my team in creating animations for Formula 1 infotainment, primarily broadcast in the Fanzone and in front of the stands.

The brief was provided directly by Formula 1. The goal was to create a series of animations displayed on the main stage screen in the Fanzone, designed to inform and engage visitors throughout each Grand Prix weekend.

The animations covered a wide range of content, including on-track and off-track information, safety messages, Fan Forum and Fanzone updates, F1 App promotions, fan facts, and other event-related communications. Much of the information was provided only a few days before each event, requiring a highly flexible workflow and the ability to accommodate frequent last-minute changes.

In 2018, we also developed and tested several social media contest animations aimed at increasing audience engagement and driving interaction with Formula 1’s official social channels.

Each Grand Prix featured its own visual identity, with bespoke colour palettes and graphic elements inspired by the host event while remaining fully aligned with Formula 1 brand guidelines, including approved typography, textures, and graphic assets.

+ + + F1 INFOTAINMENT 2019

For the 2019 season, we proposed a more efficient approach by developing a single visual template that could be reused across all Grand Prix events. Rather than redesigning the template for every race, the system allowed us to update only the event-specific information while maintaining a consistent visual identity.

After designing the master layout in Adobe Illustrator based on the specifications of the new stage screens, Chris, our lead Motion Designer, transformed it into a dynamic After Effects template. The solution was approved by Formula 1, and this templated approach proved invaluable in the fast-paced event environment, where deadlines are tight and last-minute content updates are the norm. By reducing the need for repeated redesigns and revalidations, we were able to respond quickly to changes and ensure all assets were delivered on time.

In addition to the regular Infotainment content, we produced driver introductions and logo animations for the Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, and Porsche support race categories.

Our collaborators at BM Creation in Antwerp contributed to the design and production of the stage structure for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

+ + + HEINEKEN ANIMATIONS

This project was carried out in collaboration with the Sport Creative and Sport Signage teams.

For the 2019 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, we were commissioned to create a series of video animations branded Heineken for a large LED bridge installation positioned on the track. The project had a demanding timeline and required the rapid development of more than 50 animation concepts, from which 5 were ultimately selected for live broadcast during the event, plus a “Safety Car” animation.

Given the global audience of the Singapore Grand Prix, the selected animations reached an estimated 80 million viewers worldwide, making this one of our most high-profile projects of the season.

My role involved producing the majority of both the proposed concepts and the final broadcast animations. I also coordinated my team in the creation of the virtual animations displayed on a LED fencing system, ensuring visual impact across all assets.
